RHINEBECK, N.Y. – Fredrica Joan Hoffert, a resident of Selkirk, Rhinebeck native and Formerly Of Staatsburg, died Monday, July 11. She was 89.
Born Sept. 27, 1927, in Rhinebeck, she was one of nine children bron to Herbert Edmond Wadlin and Carrie Theresa Friedman.
After graduating from Rhinebeck Central School, she trained as a registered nurse at the Hudson River State Hospital School of Nursing and was licensed by the State of New York in 1948.
She worked at a hospital in New York City, at the Hudson River State Hospital and at Project Head Start in Hyde Park until her retirement in 1982, when she and her husband, John, moved from Staatsburg to Sacandaga Lake, where they lived happily for 25 years.
She was a Eucharistic Minister and an active volunteer with the Rosary Altar Society, the Cursillo Movement, annual church bazaars and ministry to the elderly at both St. Paul's Mission Church in Staatsburg and at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Northville. She was a communicant at St. Francis of Assisi in Albany.
She is survived by her 11 children, Kathleen (John) Phelan, John Hoffert Jr., Patricia (Peter) Walaszek, Daniel (Linda) Hoffert, Judith (Thomas) Purdy, Joseph (Elizabeth) Hoffert, Eileen (Lawrence) O'Connell, Eugene Hoffert M.D., Jane Dienes, James (Jennifer) Hoffert and Linda (Bruce) Watson. She also is survived by 37 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and her sister, Florence Turner.
She was predeceased by her husband John Hoffert and grandson Nathaniel Phelan .
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 7411 S. Broadway, Red Hook followed by internment in the Milan Rural Cemetery in Rhinebeck.
