Flags Fly At Half Staff For Rudy Russo, Former Dutchess County Legislator

A longtime public servant for Dutchess County is being honored.

Rudy Russo, who served in the Dutchess County Legislature, died in Tucson on April 6. County Executive Marc Molinaro announced flags on all Dutchess County Government facility buildings would be lowered to half-staff 

Russo graduated from Pawling High School, later enlisting in the US Navy. He was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1957 and practiced law in Dutchess for 60 years.

Russo developed an interest in politics and public policy and served as town judge and as the attorney for the towns of Beekman and Pawling. He was chairman and attorney of the Dutchess County Legislature and also the attorney for Dutchess Community College.

An avid sports fan, Russo played baseball for Pawling High School and played tennis at the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club.

Russo is survived by his companion Nancy Rubsam and his four children. He was predeceased by his wife Jean and his daughter Patricia. 

Rubsam will receive Rudy’s friends and family members at the couple’s home on April 27 from 5 p.m. to 7 pm.  Calling hours will be held on April 28 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, 895 Route 82, in Hopewell Junction. 

A memorial service will be offered on April 29 at 10 a.m. at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, followed by interment with military honors in the family plot at St. Denis Cemetery.

There will be a celebration of Russo’s Life at a later date.
