Evin Hans Kleinganz, 20, of Poughkeepsie, died Saturday after the canoe he was a passenger in flipped over in the Hudson River in Northwest Dutchess.

Born on May 1, 1997, in Poughkeepsie, to Hans Guenter and Colleen (Zeyher) Kleinganz, the popular baseball player attended Arlington Central Schools for the entirety of his grade school career and went on to attend the College of Saint Rose as a forensic science major and a pitcher on their Division II baseball team.

He was currently enrolled at Dutchess Community College as a student in the Criminal Justice department.

According to his family, one of the great joys of his life was the many years he spent as a member of the Hudson Valley baseball community and the countless friends he made during that time.

He will be remembered for the happiness he found in connecting with others, his bright smile, adventurous spirit, and generous heart.

Kleinganz is survived by his parents, Hans and Colleen, of Poughkeepsie and his sister, Kyra, of Los Angeles. He also survived by his maternal aunt, Nancy Seeger of Salt Point, and paternal aunts Stefanie (Jupp) Maylahn and Petra (Hugo Bors) Kleinganz, of Cologne, Germany, along with maternal uncles Mark (Deb) Zeyher of Stanfordville and Karl (Ginene) Zeyher of Poughkeepsie, and by cousins Erik, Jordan, Aaron, Kelsey, Kyle, and baby Spencer Zeyher, Lena Maylahn, and Lutz Kleinganz.

He is predeceased by his aunt, Anita Kleinganz, his paternal grandparents, Hans and Luise Kleinganz, and maternal grandparents Lewis and Janet Zeyher.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to  p.m. at the 4-8PM at the William G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie. Services will be Saturday, at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ, 5928 Rt. 82, Stanfordville. Burial will follow in the Stanfordville Cemetery.
