Ellen Agnes Sutcliffe, 83, Of Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY, N.Y. -- Ellen Agnes Sutcliffe, of Pleasant Valley, died Wednesday, Aug. 24. She was 83. She was born July 6, 1933, in Rothes, Scotland, to the late George and Ellen McWilliam. She emigrated to the United States when she was 19 and later became a citizen.

She worked at the Overlook School for many years until her retirement. She was a devoted member of the Pleasant Valley Presbyterian church, where she served as deacon. She belonged to the Dutchess County Scottish Society, the IBM Retirees Club and the Thistle Club. She also attended the Burns Supper for 50 years.

She is survived by her two sons, Allen and his spouse Laura Sutcliffe of Hopewell Junction and Brian Sutcliffe of Chelsea; three grandchildren, Heather, Derek and Brandon Sutcliffe; and her former daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Sutcliffe.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Allen Funeral Home, 1605 Main St., Pleasant Valley. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, 1576 Main St. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
