Born in Buckhannon, West Virgina, on Aug. 25, 1934, Gallo was the daughter of Lillie Eskew. She was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in both Stormville and Union Vale.
Gallo was a life member of Stormville Fire Company and the Stormville Fire Company Auxiliary, with over 48 years of dedicated service. She had also served as a Past Captain for the East Fishkill Rescue Squad and was elected as the first female Fire Commissioner for the East Fishkill Fire District. In addition, Gallo served as an elections inspector for the Board of Elections for many years.
The East Fishkill Police Department said: "The members of the East Fishkill Police Department wish to extend our condolences to the family and friends of Rita Gallo, and the members of the East Fishkill Rescue Squad and Stormville Fire Company. Rita served the residents of our town for many years."
She is survived by her husband, Alfred J. Gallo; her children, Phyllis Odell and her husband Robert of Hopewell Junction, James Gallo of Poughkeepsie, Joseph Gallo of Poughkeepsie, and Michael Gallo and his wife Linda of Stormville; her grandchildren, Patrick and Melissa Odell, Michele Gallo, Joseph and Marlene Gallo, Kristin Gallo and Vincent DiGregorio, and Michael Gallo Jr.; her great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Odell, Caitlin Odell, Shane Gallo and Austin DiGregorio; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her grandson, William C. Odell; and her brother, Glen Riggleman.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction with a Firematic Service at 7:30 pm. The Funeral service will be on at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
