Dorothy Walits, 76, Red Hook Resident

RED HOOK, N.Y. – Dorothy Walits, of Red Hook, died Tuesday, March 1. She was 76.

Born March 8, 1939, in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Nathan and Antoinette (Jedlicka) Schiffer. She was a graduate of Westchester Community College with a degree in computer science. She was a communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook.

She is survived by her sons, Christopher Walits of Valparaiso, Ind., Kenneth Walits of West Olive, Mich., Jeff Walits of Mohegan Lake and Steve Michael of Ridgefield, Conn.; a brother, Robert Schiffer of Largo, Fla.; grandchildren, Emily, Andrew, Liam, Nalani Walits, and Sabrina, Kaia, and Mila Michael; and nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Santamarina and Kathleen Petersen.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 20 in the Chapel at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. Please contact Gate of Heaven Cemetery at 914-769-3672 for the time of services. Inernment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 S. Broadway, Red Hook.
