Dorothy L. Kilmer, 95, Of Rhinebeck

RHINEBECK, N.Y. – Dorothy L. Kilmer, 95, died at home Nov. 20.

Born Jan. 19, 1920, in Yorktown, Kilmer was the daughter of Edward and Deborah (Russell) Lewis. She graduated from high school in Shrub Oak.

For several years after moving to Rhinebeck, she worked at T&T Ford as a bookkeeper, and after the birth of her children, she remained at home caring for her family and tending to her flower gardens.

Kilmer was an active member of the Dutchess County Home Bureau. She would learn about and teach crafts in the county and at SUNY Delhi. On Oct. 15, 1961, at their home in Rhinebeck, she married John D. Kilmer.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter Deborah (Kenneth) Broseman of Port St. Lucie, Fla; a son Terry (Amy) Kilmer of Red Hook; a daughter Holly Ireland of Windham; a niece Karen (Charlie) Wood of Hudson; daughter-in-law Gretchen Williams of Rhinebeck; seven grandchildren, Christie and Kyle Williams, Jenny Smith, Michelae VanSteenburg, Samantha Kilmer, John and Gabrielle Ireland; five great-grandchildren; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Robert E. Williams and a brother Edward (Marion) Lewis, Jr.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Old Stone Church, Route 9 Rhinebeck. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
