POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Would you know how to save your family or what do during an emergency such as Hurricane Sandy or an ice storm?

If the answer is no, the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response is holding a Citizen’s Preparedness Corps Training Program designed to provide residents with the tools and resources to better prepare for any type of disaster.

Participants will learn how to respond accordingly in a disaster and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.

Provided by the state Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services in conjunction with the state Division of Military and Naval Affairs, the program will be from 7 to 9 p.m Tuesday, at the Dutchess Community College, Drumlin Hall, located at 53 Wendell Road.

The event is open to the public and free to attend; however, pre-registration is required. Each participant will receive a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit.

The training session is serving as the ‘kick-off’ for the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response’s citizen preparedness training initiative which will be offered regionally throughout Dutchess County in 2016. Dutchess County’s Medical Reserve Corps and the Dutchess County Animal Response Team will be present as part of the training.
