Officials from Central Hudson said that a transmission line serving southern Dutchess County and Central Hudson’s Putnam County service area went offline at approximately 10 a.m., leaving an estimated 18,000 customers without power.

The cause of the equipment malfunction was at a substation, which led to a transmission line serving the region to go offline, Central Hudson spokesperson John Maserjian noted. Power was restored to the bulk of customers within seven minutes.

As of 1 p.m., Central Hudson customers were still reporting 12 active outages, affecting 135 customers. Among those still affected include customers in Orange (48), Dutchess (21) and Putnam (19) counties. Additional outages were reported in Greene, Ulster and Columbia counties.
