The organization said President Donald Trump's executive order reducing the number of refugees being admitted in 2018 made future resettlements through Poughkeepsie unlikely.
"Accordingly, CWS Poughkeepsie is not able to accommodate offers from volunteers to work with refugees, either for welcome teams or those having particular skills," Roisin Ford said.
Trump's executive order reduced the cap on refugees from 110,000 to 45,000 in 2018. Church World Service said its commitment to refugees relocated in January remains a top priority.
"We will continue to support their successful resettlement, in coordination with the family’s welcome team," Ford said. "I am happy to report that this effort is off to a good start, thanks in large part to the efforts of dedicated volunteers and members of the community."
