Poughkeepsie Attorney, Former Cop Sent To Prison For Forcibly Touching

A retired Town of Poughkeepsie police lieutenant and lawyer who admitted to forcibly touching a former client was handed 45 days in jail and six years probation as his punishment, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Wayne Thatcher, 63, was arrested on May 18 and charged with two counts of forcible touching with a client. He was charged with two more counts in June when additional victims stepped forward, the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office said. 

He was arrested again in December after leaving the City of Poughkeepsie Court for a scheduled appearance, in regards to a new woman who has come forward with an allegation of inappropriate sexual contact, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said. 

The district attorney's office said they when with the charge that had the strongest evidence, the Journal said.

The sentence will cover all of the charges because he pleaded guilty, meaning, the other charges were dismissed.
