Charles Cole is being held at Dutchess County Jail after his arraignment Monday on second-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Dutchess County prosecutors say he strangled his 76-year-old mother Aug. 16 in a Pleasant Valley motel where they lived, the Poughkeepsie Journal says.
Prosecutors also say he kept her body in a plastic bin for about two months before taking it to South Carolina, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports.
