SAUGERTIES, N.Y. -- A funeral was scheduled for noon Monday for Jack Rose, the 19-year-old volunteer Mount Marion firefighter died in the line of duty, according to Time Warner Cable News.

About a thousand mourners turned out to pay their respects to the family of Capt. Jack Rose on Sunday. He died of injuries while fighting a house fire in the Centerville Fire District on Dec. 19, TWC reported.

Rose, who grew up in Saugerties, graduated from John A. Coleman High School in 2014 and began working as an emergency medical technician for Mobile Life Support Services in July, was remembered by friends and former classmates as someone who always put a smile on your face and like helping others, said the news channel.

Funeral services were to be held at St. John's Church in Centerville.
