Dog That Attacked Jogger Had Been Banned From Red Hook

RED HOOK, N.Y. -- A dog banned from Red Hook was one of two dogs that bit a jogger in the town in December, according to a report by the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Gemma, a cane corso or Italian mastiff like the one pictured, was not supposed to be in Red Hook when she bit a jogger.

Gemma, a cane corso -- also known as an Italian mastiff, a large dog bred for guarding and hunting -- belongs to Jessica South, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

Gemma had been involved in an attack on another dog in April 2015 and was not supposed to be in Red Hook any longer, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

She and a second dog have been ordered put down after the second attack, but South is appealing the ruling, the Poughkeepsie Journal story said.
