Vera Van Wagner, who turned 113 last week, was honored for being Dutchess' first supercentenarian as the Office of the Aging celebrated its 19th annual Celebration of Aging, honoring its Senior Citizens Of The Year in Wappingers Falls.
Wagner is the oldest living person in New York, the oldest ever Dutchess County resident, the third oldest person in the United States and the 27th oldest person in the world. She lives at the Baptist Home At Brookmeade in Rhinebeck.
Also honored at the event were four Dutchess County couples celebrating marriages of 71, 72, 74 and 77 years, and seven residents between the ages of 100 and 102.
Sixta Tulia Aguinaga de Posada, a Lagrangeville resident, joined the supercentenarian club in April.
