Dutchess County SPCA Has Long List For Santa This Year

HYDE PARK, N.Y. – As the holiday season begins, most pet owners will be heading to stores to purchase treats and toys for their furry friends, say officials from the Dutchess County SPCA.

The Dutchess County SPCA, an animal rescue agency, is kicking off its holiday fund drive on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Its wish list -- besides money to support shelter programs -- includes walkie-talkies, dish soap and a 4-wheel drive SUV.

In that spirit, the Hyde Park-based agency is launching its first “12 Days of Holiday Giving” donation drive. It runs from Tuesday, Dec. 1, through Thursday, Dec. 10.

Drive organizers even came up with a catchy way to post its “wish list” for all those Santas out there.

Set to the tune of “The 12 Days of Christmas,” the animal rescue agency’s list includes: a Fast Cat exercise wheel, Go Pro cameras, laptops for the administration team, asphalt for a new driveway, dish soap, a 4-wheel drive SUV, walkie talkies, HVAC filters, Thundershirts and dog coats, Feliway Diffusers and refills, large scratching trees, and microchip scanners.

The agency receives a few grants from government and nonprofit organizations, but relies on donations from individuals and community organizations to do its mission work.

Monetary gifts can also be donated at designated drop-off locations or on the Giving Grid donation page, by clicking here.

Additionally, on Saturday, Dec. 5, Dutchess County residents are invited to the SPCA at 636 Violet Ave., in Hyde Park from 12 noon to 4 p.m. to take pictures with their pets and Santa. The cost is $20 and will go toward the drive fund.
