The Underwear Factory, which held its grand opening in March, is being honored as the non-profit of the year by Think Dutchess at its annual Business Excellence Awards Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Grandview in Poughkeepsie.

Hudson River Housing headed the $7 million rejuvenation project, which features Poughkeepsie Open Kitchen, a look at North River Roasters coffee, the Mid-Hudson Heritage Center, a Cultural and Community Center and residential apartments.

"It has been a transformative project for Main Street," Think Dutchess CEO Sarah Lee said. "It's quickly become a community hub, it brings a lot of life to the area. It provides jobs, education, affordable housing. It's a place for the community to gather."

More than 100 years ago, the building was renowned for making underwear.
