HYDE PARK, N.Y. -- The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra will bring together the restrained tunes of Gilbert and Sullivan and the irreverent music of Andrew Lloyd Webber for a concert described as 'Victorian era meets rock and roll' at the Marriott Pavilion auditorium in Hyde Park on Feb. 6.

The Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra will be joined by 50 singers from the select choruses of John Jay and Roy C. Ketcham high schools.

Kathleen Beckmann, the symphony’s artistic director, expects that the contrasting styles of music from these two distinct periods of British theater will make for an enjoyable and dynamic concert program.

“While the tunes of Gilbert and Sullivan are always prim, proper, and restrained, Webber’s pieces can be irreverent and outrageous, with pounding rhythms, unusual meters, and harmonies that clash at times,” Beckamnn said.

Ristorante Caterina de’ Medici will have a special $39 pre-performance dining experience. The menu will include family-style Caesar salad and antipasti, a selection of five pastas served table side, and a set dessert. To book your table, call 845-905-4533 or email ciarestaurantgroup@culinary.edu .

The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the 800-seat Marriott Pavilion auditorium at The Culinary Institute of America. Tickets for the concert are $20/adults, $15/seniors, and $5/students.
