RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- Oblong Books & Music, in Rhinebeck, is celebrating spring with a variety of authors, beginning on Sunday, April 3. All events are free and open to the public. An RSVP is requested but not required, to rsvp@oblongbooks.com.

Sunday, April 3, 2 p.m. -- Jack Myers' book, "The Future of Men: Masculinity in the Twenty First Century," prepares men and women for the shift in gender norms society is experiencing today. There will also be a Q&A and book signing.

Tuesday, April 5, at 6 p.m. -- Bard professor and author Ian Buruma will discuss his book, "Their Promised Land: My Grandparents In Love And War." During World War II, Buruma's grandparents were torn from each other. And so they wrote letters: lots. He has woven his voice with theirs to bring to relationship and age to life. There will also be a Q&A and book signing.

Friday, April 8, 6 p.m. -- Mary Norris will discuss her memoir, "Between You & Me: Confessions of a Comma Queen." It provides laugh-out-loud descriptions of some of the most common and vexing problems in spelling, punctuation and usage -- and clear explanations for handling them. This also features a Q&A and book signing.

Sunday, April 17, at 4 p.m. -- The Hudson Valley YA Society will host NYT best-seller Sarah Rees Brennan ("Tell the Wind and Fire"), Heidi Heilig and Heather Demetrios, as they discuss their new novels. The group is recommended for teens 12 and up -- but adults are welcome too.

Tuesday, April 19, at 7 p.m. -- Rhinebeck resident, author and style guru Barbara Ballinger will present her new book, "The Garden Bible," a follow up her "The Kitchen Bible," at Rhinebeck's Starr Library.

Thursday, April 21, at 6 p.m. -- Renowned New Yorker cartoonist Michael Maslin will present his biography, "Peter Arno: the Mad, Mad World of the New Yorker's Greatest Cartoonist." In 1925, the magazine took a chance on a young cartoonist -- who then helped define it.

The bookstore is located at 6422 Montgomery St. For more information, call 845-876-0500 or visit its website.
