RHINEBECK, N.Y. – The Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum’s Spirit of the Aerodrome Gala is set to mark the anniversary of Charles Lindbergh’s trans-Atlantic flight.

The gala, the theme for which is “The Roaring 20s” is set for Saturday, May 21, exactly 89 years since Lindbergh’s historic adventure.

A highlight of the event is to be the first public flight of the Spirit of St. Louis, an exact replica of the Lindbergh craft.

The plane, said to be a tribute to the museum’s founder, Cole Palen, has been in the works for 20 years. It will be one of several aircraft taking to the skies on the day of the gala. The Aerodrome’s fleet of vintage planes will perform demonstrations and guests will have the opportunity to take biplane rides in a 1929 New Standard. Guided tours of the site also will be offered.

The event is expected to draw two of Lindbergh’s grandchildren and Peter Jakab, chief curator of the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. Jakab is is set to deliver two talks during the day and will participate in a question and answer session after each talk.

In the spirit of the Roaring 20s theme, those who dress in apparel of the era will receive discounted admission.

The Aerodrome Museum’s day of events is set to begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at 9 Norton Road. The Spirit of St. Louis’ debut flight is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Click here for a full schedule of events and other details .

Tickets are still available and can be purchased for $175. Proceeds will benefit the ongoing aircraft restorations at the Aerodrome, a nonprofit organization.
