RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- The Rhinebeck Aerodrome is hosting a program entitled History Through Reading History open to 15 fifth and sixth graders.

The program will run from July 11 through July 15 starting at 10:15 a.m. daily and finishing at noon. History Through Reading was developed by Aerodrome volunteer Stew Sommerville, an English teacher with 21 yeaes of experience, Shayne Esposito, a forensic psychology major at the University of New Haven and Carol Harklerode, Aerodrome office manager.

Reading titles have been selected to highlight the Aerodrome’s collection of antique aircrafts and offer participants both primary and secondary exposure to each day’s topics. Each day of the five-day program will feature one historic figure in aviation and a presentation on an aircraft, or artifact related to the topic from the Aerodrome’s collection. Readings on Louis Bleriot, the Wright Brothers, Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh and Bessie Coleman, the first female pilot of African American descent to hold a pilot license will be included.

The program will also feature a scavenger hunt and fact-finding mission, and an end of program barbeque on Friday July 15, is planned. History Through Reading is Program Registration forms are available by calling the Rhinebeck Aerodrome office at (845) 752-3200, or sending an email to Carol Harklerode at carol@oldrhinebeck.org.
