Poughkeepsie Hosting Fundraiser For Alzheimer's Assocation

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Healing sessions, tarot readings and baked goods will be available for donations to help fight Alzheimer’s disease in the outdoor courtyard of the Rhinebeck Bank building at 2 Jefferson Plaza in Poughkeepsie on Monday, June 20.

The event is a part of the Alzheimer’s Association’s national fundraiser, The Longest Day, features teams committed to doing activities they love from sunrise to sunset on the summer solstice as a way of honoring the challenges faced by families living with Alzheimer’s. 

The bake sale will run throughout the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring homemade traditional and Italian-specialty treats. 

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Karen Finnegan of Hudson Valley Oracle, also known as Karen The Tarot Diva, will give tarot readings. Finnegan has been involved in tarot since her late teens, and the deck she carries has been with her for almost three decades. She is heard on the “Miller in the Morning” show every Thursday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. at 92.9 WBPM. 

Appointments are required; people interested in scheduling a tarot reading should call Lauren Voorhees at (845) 471-2655. 

From 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., certified Reiki master Rachel Smith of Reiki with Rachel will offer 15-minute healing sessions in the courtyard. 

Reiki is a hands-free healing practice that helps focus the body’s energies to awaken its natural healing abilities. While typical hour-long Reiki sessions can cost between $60 and $100, the15-minute sessions at The Longest Day Fundraiser will be available for a suggested $10 donation.

Walk-ins are accepted for the Reiki sessions, but appointments can also be made by calling Lauren Voorhees at 845.471.2655.
