The author is being hosted by Rhinebeck's Oblong Books the weekend after opening weekend.

The book's story introduces children ages five to nine to both local and urban green markets and paints a picture of a strong, interconnected community.

Karas divides his entertaining and enlightening behind-the-scenes story of a farmers’ market into two sections. The first, "On the Farm," places a sunny focus on the daily grind that keeps farms running and providing a glimpse into their operations.

The second section,"At the Market," brings the farmers together early the next morning, setting up their stands and preparing for shoppers to arrive. Chef Amy, the baker at the Busy Bee Cafe, thoughtfully selects produce and visits with each vendor, then everyone celebrates the end of market day with a community farm-to-table meal she creates.

Karas has illustrated many books for children, including "Muncha! Muncha! Muncha And Tippy-Tippy-Tippy, Hide!" by Candace Fleming; "Incredible Me" by Kathi Appelt; the "High-Rise Private Eyes" series by Cynthia Rylant; and "Ivan" by Catherine Applegate, which was a New York Times bestseller. He has written and illustrated many of which have been named ALA Notables, Booklist Editor Choices, School Library Journal Best Books, and Boston Globe Horn Book Honor books.
