RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- A discussion billed "Effective Communication Strategies and Techniques: Supporting Our Loved Ones with Dementia" is coming to Ferncliff Nursing Home on Tuesday, April 19 at 6:30 p.m. 

Sister M. Peter Lillian Di Maria Ferncliff Nursing Home, who will lead the discussion, has more than thirty-five years of experience in the continuum care ministry as a Carmelite Sister for the Aged and Infirm.

Understanding key concepts of those suffering from memory impairments and addressing practical strategies to care for those with different causes to dementia will be discussed in this informational session. Sister M. Peter Lillian Di Maria will provide an overview of dementia, providing insights into memory impairment and techniques to enhance communication to allow families to better connect with their loved ones. 

Di Maria has more than thirty-five years of experience in the continuum care ministry as a Carmelite Sister for the Aged and Infirm. She has served her community in many administrative positions and has lectured many times on Alzheimer’s disease, palliative care, geriatric spiritual care, family care issues, stress reduction, leadership development, and team building. She has developed successful dementia-care programs, dementia care curriculums and assisted in developing a palliative care resource manual that is specific for geriatric care.
