Fishkill Farms Reverses Farm-To-Table Trend With Al Fresco Dinner

This Saturday, Fishkills Farms in Hopewell Junction will be hosting its second outdoor dinner of the season from 6-9:30 p.m.

Partnering with Chef John Lekic of Poughkeepsie’s Le Express Bistro & Bar, it will serve a three-course meal using seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, including its own greens, tomatoes, melon and free-range eggs.

One of the Hudson Valley’s oldest apple orchards, it sits on 130 acres in the hamlet of Hopewell Junction. It was founded in the early 20th century by U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Henry Morgenthau Jr., a family friend of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who lived in nearby Hyde Park.

The farm has been handed down through family members, including form Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau. It is now owned by his son, Joshua Morgenthau, according to the farm’s Wikipedia entry.

A quick peek at Saturday's menu offerings include: chilled vegan zucchini soup shooters, cantaloupe with prosciutto and mozzarella, tomato salad, grass-fed beef bourguignon, grilled rainbow trout and watermelon and mint granita.

Locally produced wine, beer and hard cider will be available for sale during the event. (Sorry, no BYOB allowed.)

Live music will be provided by Maria B. Hickey, a Poughkeepsie resident and lead singer of The Michael Dell Orchestra. She will be preforming standards, jazz songs and contemporary ballads.
