Dutchess County Marks 16th Anniversary Of 9/11

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y -- A series of events will be held throughout Dutchess County on Monday to commemorate the 16th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

LaGrange will be hosting a memorial service at Stringham Park at 78 Stringham Road at 8:30 a.m.

East Fishkill will be hosting a memorial at East Fishkill Town Hall at 330 Route 376 in East Fishkill at 6:30 p.m.

Hyde Park is hosting a candlelight memorial service at the Paul Tegtmeier Memorial Site at Hackett Hill Park. Candles will be handed out at 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony will begin at 7.

Tegtmeier, a Hyde Park resident, was a New York City firefighter who died on Sept. 11.

Fishkill will be hosting a 9/11 Memorial Remembrance at Van Wyck Hall at 1095 Main Street at 8:30 a.m.

The City of Poughkeepsie will be hosting a memorial outside at City Hall at 62 Civic Center Plaza at 9 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held inside City Hall.

All city employees, including the Fire Department and Police Department, and local elected officials will be invited.

A remembrance ceremony will be held Sgt. Mark Palmateer Memorial 9/11 Park at Old Hopewell Road and Route 9 in Wappingers Falls at 8:30 a.m. Palmateer was a soldier killed in Afghanistan in 2008. 

A memorial service will be held at Mesier Park and Homestead at East Main Street and Route 9 in Wappingers Falls at 6 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at the New Hackensack Fire Company at 217 Myers Corners Road in Wappingers Falls at 6 p.m.

A memorial service will be held on the steps of the Dutchess County Family Court building at 50 Market Street in Poughkeepsie at 8:30 a.m. County Court Judge Peter M. Forman will preside and Congressman John Faso will offer remarks. 

The service will include a ceremonial lowering of the flag and a moment of silence to recall those who lost their lives. An honor guard composed of officers of the Office of Court Administration will attend in recognition of their brethren who died during rescue efforts on September 11th. The public is welcome and invited to attend.
