DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- A number of new exhibits will be featured when the 171st Dutchess County Fair begins on Tuesday, Aug. 23, in Rhinebeck.

The fair runs through Sunday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The fair is the second largest in New York state and is the showcase for agriculture in Dutchess County, and among its features are farm animals, exhibits and horticultural displays.

New exhibits this year include:

  • Agri-Puppets : A fun family show that teaches the importance of farming, animals and agriculture. Join the puppet cast with sing-a-longs, identifying animals, popping bubbles, answering questions and more.
  • Saints of Swing: An extraordinary collective of some of the tri-state area’s finest performers. Providing a fresh and exciting experience in art and entertainment. The Saints of Swing specialize in eclectic and electric selections of foot-tappin’ Swing classics.
  • Pirates of the Columbian Caribbean: A swashbuckling experience for children of all ages, this high flying act is presented in authentic pirate costumes and is completed with a pirate ship as a backdrop.
  • Brigade Extreme Sports: Get ready for some twisting, turning and topsy turvy action featuring ATVs, motorcycles and snowmobiles. Be sure and catch this action packed show at the grandstand on Saturday and Sunday at 2 and 6 p.m.
  • AgVenture Tent: A farm to table experience to education young people about where their food comes from. This interactive tent features hands-on activities specially designed to give children (and their parents) an opportunity to learn about the importance of agriculture in their lives.
  • Powers Great American Midways: New rides will include the SEA RAY, a giant themed pirate ship that swings on a pendulum with thousands of gorgeous colored lights flashing and Jungle Jeeps for young riders, who will feel like they are driving on safari as they spin in circles at the fair.

The fair includes a concert series that begins on Tuesday with Third Eye Blind, which begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets begin at $20. Parmalee, a country music group, plays on Wednesday and Hotel California, an Eagles tribute band, plays on Thursday. Chase Rice, also a country music star, performs on Friday. Click here for the concert series schedule.

Fair tickets are $15 for adults. Children 12 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online . A large assortment of food vendors will be at the fair, along with merchants and service organizations. Click here for the complete list.

The New York State Fair is the only fair in New York larger than the Dutchess County event. It begins on Thursday, Aug. 25 and runs through Sept. 5 in Syracuse.
