Daily Voice: What makes your integrative wellness center so unique?

Dr. Beth Gershuny: We are the most broadly encompassing wellness center in the region with an unusually large array of services (e.g., psychotherapy, hypnosis, meditation, life coaching, Ayurveda, chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, energy healing, nutrition, tai chi, qigong, yoga, fitness) all provided integratively under one roof to create greater ease for clients and patients. All of our practitioners are highly credentialed experts in their fields who provide outstandingly competent, compassionate and collaborative care. And, because we believe strongly in being accessible to as many people as possible, we offer different modalities of treatments with varying fees to accommodate individual needs.

DV: What are you most proud of in the past year?

BG: That Izlind has been embraced by our local Hudson Valley and Rhinebeck communities and has grown throughout our first year in numbers of individuals we serve and numbers of additional and specialized types of treatments we offer.

DV: Anything else to note?

BG: I'm very proud to see Izlind come to fruition and to evolve, grow, and thrive. I am a clinical psychologist and was a college professor as well as a psychologist for most of my career, first at Harvard Medical School where I was trained, then at Skidmore College where I had attended as an undergraduate, and last at Bard College where I was tenured. I began to percolate a dream of creating a center like Izlind over ten years ago after being part of a research team at Harvard studying the effects of mindfulness meditation on lessening symptoms of stress and anxiety.

To leave academia to try to create and manifest this dream took an enormous leap of faith, and I’ve been extremely fortunate to have such a phenomenal group of practitioners join me on this journey.

Izlind is named after my nieces – Isabel (IZ) and Lindsay (LIND) -- who were named after my grandparents Isadora (IZ) and Louis (L). This was a way for me to envelop the center with familial energy that is protective and loving. Similarly, all of the Izlind practitioners and I hope that everyone who comes to Izlind, for any reason, feels embraced by a sense of belonging and welcome.
