RHINEBECK, N.Y. --"Playfully creative" is the unofficial motto of Fiber Flame Studio in Rhinebeck.
The colorful art space and gift store opened in May 2014, and has another location, which is now 4-years-old, in Saugerties.
At the heart of the business is "a belief that everyone is an artist, that giving ourselves and our families the time to sit and make something with our hands lifts our spirits and makes for a happier, healthier life." So explained Co-Owner Shea Lord-Farmer who said the goal of the business is to create a space where folks of all ages and abilities feel comfortable playing and creating side by side, whether or not they think of themselves as “crafty.”
"We want art-making to be fun and accessible for everyone," added Christina Brady who also owns the studio.
As the holidays approach, both women say it's a great time to come in and make something handmade and special. The gift shop in front also offers a large selection of handmade and fair trade jewelry, accessories, toys, paper goods and home wares, many from artists in the Hudson Valley.
The space is also available for parties and features an extensive list of classes.
One of the store's biggest challenges, in fact, is the fact that many locals don't think of stopping by. "We get lots of visits in the walk-in studio from vacationers and visitors but sometimes it seems our community forgets how important it is to treat themselves and their families to creative time together," said Lord-Farmer.
On the plus side, the two women said their biggest reward is getting to experience the joy and satisfaction of their customers faces when they’ve made something they’re really proud of.
"We’re proud to say we’re creating a crafting addiction, " said Lord-Farmer.
