Special-edition boxes of Cheerios showing ShopRite associates Dawn Doughty-Myers of Poughkeepsie and Kelsey Wright of Beacon were unveiled on Monday, March 6.
They are among 80 ShopRite employees, from 40 stores, who will be so enshrined in supermarket history for their efforts to combat hunger as part of its "Partners in Caring" contest.
Each of the winning stores chose two associates to be featured on the iconic Cheerios box. General Mills produced 150,000 boxes.
The supermarket chain’s latest competition has raised $1.4 million to fight hunger, according to New Jersey-based Wakefern Food Corp.
The five top participating stores were given $3,000 apiece and the rest, $500 apiece. The money then goes to local food banks, Wakefern said.
Among the other winning ShopRites were: Croton-on-Hudson, New Rochelle, Scarsdale, Thornwood, and Tuckahoe.
The friendly competition was sponsored by ShopRite and General Mills, which makes Cheerios.
According to Christine Magyarits, spokesperson for ShopRite Partners In Caring, the contest has collected $43 million in donations since 1999.
She praised the dedication of workers, the generosity of customers, and its “vendor partner,” General Mills for making the annual event a success.
The Fishkill ShopRite is located at 738 Route 9. It can be reached by calling (845) 897-2211.
