Darryl's In Rhinebeck Prides Itself On Being A One-Stop Shop

RHINEBECK, N.Y. -- If it weren't for a search for a country house 25 years ago, Darryl's on East Market Street might be in a quaint village somewhere else.

Darryl Gamble, who has owned Darryl's on New York's Upper West Side since 1986, had always wanted to open a second locaiton for his contemporary women's boutique store. A friend suggested Rhinebeck and soon after touring the area, he and his partner, Ed Coviello, knew it would be a perfect fit -- for both a home and a store.

They purchased their weekend home in 1990 and moved there full time after 9/11. Darryl's second location opened in 2005 and has been busy ever since.

Gamble credits his success to his mission: to make women look good and feel great. Exceptional customer service and a unique selection also set the store apart. "We pride ourselves in our ability to help women find what suits them best, whether shopping for dresses, casual separates or career," he said. "We are a one-stop shopping experience."

The store's hands on approach is another point of difference. Both Gamble and Coviello go into the market several times a month to search for the best that New York and Europe has to offer. The two are also found in their stores seven days a week helping their clients put together personalized outfits that are suited to their needs and preferences.

Currently well represented at the store are Joseph Ribkoff for dresses and jackets, Lissette for Pants and Aldo Martins, a knitwear designer from Barcelona who produces pieces not found anywhere else in the Hudson Valley.

New for fall/winter: leather anything, vests for in-between temperatures, and jumpsuits (instead of dresses).

Darryl's is located at 18A East Market St., (845) 876-8800, www.darrylsny.com/.
